WhatsApp is a messaging service that can be used to text individuals and groups. It also allows images, emojis and attachments to be shared. It is owned by Facebook but is pared down and doesn't have all the 'noise' of that service - no ads, no friend suggestions, etc. which is why many people prefer it for communications.

What you may not know is that you do have limited formatting options which are:

*asterisk on either side* for bold

_underscore text_ for italics

~a tilde beside F1~ for strikethrough

''3 ticks for monospace '''

You can mix and match formatting within one message.

And if you prefer, you can press on a message you are typing, select it, and get the formatting menu that way.
